eavesdropping

Random Snippets of a Conversation

This mp3 is slightly different from the others – it is once again eavesdropping, but this time it is only one side of a conversation, with pauses deleted. In fact, it is not much of a conversation, but just some online chatting while playing a game. It will give you examples of common spoken expressions, such as ouais (another way to say oui; compare yeah in English), ah bon ? (really?), de quoi ? (what?), etc. as well as some slang words that are considered vulgar and should not be used in polite company or in front of children, such as putain, enfoiré, and con.

Eavesdropping Again

Sorry for the lack of resources lately – I haven’t been home (or in France) to create new mp3s the past few weeks. Nevertheless, here is another eavesdropping mp3. David is helping Mélina eat her afternoon snack, compôte, and Uncle and Mamie are talking in the background.

Easier Eavesdropping and Child Talk

Here’s another eavesdropping mp3, but this time it is much easier to understand. It’s shorter and there are less people talking, though if you have trouble understanding children speaking in your native language, it may be difficult to catch the words that Mélina is saying in French (she’s only 18 months old.)

Eavesdropping on the French

A slightly different type of resource: eavesdropping on the French. No one knew I was recording them until afterwards so this is an example of real, everyday speech. It’s a bit difficult to understand as there are several people talking at once, and the subject gets changed many times. I haven’t typed the transcript yet, but I will upload it eventually.
