Travel Tips: France

To & From Lyon St. ExupEry Airport (LYS)

If you fly into... and you are going to... the easiest option is :
Lyon (LYS) several cities TGV direct from St. Exupéry airport [download PDF schedule] OR Rhônexpress tram [view site] to Lyon Part-Dieu train station, then SNCF train to your city
Lyon (LYS) Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains, Annecy CHEAP: Crolard bus direct from airport [download PDF schedule]
EXPENSIVE: Rhônexpress tram [view site] to Lyon Part-Dieu train station, then regular train

The most direct and cheapest option to get between Lyon airport and Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains, or Annecy is the Crolard bus. You can buy tickets online at One-way is 22€ and round-trip (valid for 3 months) is 33€.

If you want to take the train instead, first you must take the Rhônexpress tram to Lyon Part-Dieu train station (13€ one-way, or 23€ round-trip; valid for one year) and then switch to a regular SNCF train to your city (check the prices on For example, the total for a round-trip to the airport from Chambéry would be 55.80€ and from Annecy 69.40€.

If you are arriving at Lyon Part-Dieu with plenty of time to spare before your flight, there are automatic luggage lockers where you can store your bags if you want to explore the city first before heading to the airport. They are not available 24 hours a day, however. Check the website Gare en Mouvement for information on other train stations in France if you need to know if there are lockers available (choose the station; then click + Services, and then the Services tab for consignes).

Smaller airports: Grenoble is actually a quite small airport, and mostly serves flights to and from the British Isles. You will have to take a bus from the airport to the rail station in Grenoble proper. The Chambéry airport also mostly serves the British Isles, but there is no public transportation from the airport to the rail station. You will have to take a taxi to the train station. Alternatively, Annecy has a small airport as well, which only serves Paris Orly, and there is a bus connecting the airport to the rail station in downtown Annecy.
